DIY Flower Power Goddess Bath Salt

reading time: 3 min

A homemade bath salt mix is a wonderful companion for the cold and dark winter months. Not only to draw yourself a relaxing, comforting bath, but it also makes a great (last minute Christmas) gift. You could put together a little "pamper hamper" containing a winter-scented bath salt mix (see notes below), this easy chocolate mocha body scrub, a few sweet chai lotion bars, and my favourite peppermint and chocolate lip balm.

If you, like me, don't have the luxury of a bathtub in your home, you can use this bath salt mix for a luxurious hand soak or foot soak to relieve aching feet. It's a great way to relax and decompress at the end of a busy day.

The main component of this mix, Epsom salt, naturally contains magnesium and sulfate that help improve the absorption of nutrients, flush toxins, cleanse pores and ease sore muscles. The pink Himalayan salt pulls waste toxins out of the skin, draws excess water out of the body, and restores pH balance. The Dead Sea salt is great for holding essential oils due to its high moisture content. And the baking soda helps relieve skin concerns as well as symptoms of a yeast infection.

Depending on the essential oils you use, your bath soak can have a calming, invigorating, detoxifying, or even aphrodisiac effect.

Combined with beautiful dried flowers, this bath soak will leave you feeling like a Goddess!

DIY FLOWER POWER GODDESS BATH SALT

INGREDIENTS:

3 cups Epsom salt
1 cup pink Himalayan salt
1 cup Dead Sea salt
1/2 cup baking soda
1 tsp sweet almond oil or melted coconut oil
about 20-50 drops essential oils (e. g. lavender, rose, eucalyptus, rosemary, orange, ylang ylang *)
about 8 tbsp dried flowers (e. g. rose, calendula, chamomile, lavender, mallow, cornflower, hibiscus, mullein)

also:
clean glass jars or bottles (I re-use old jam jars, honey jars and smoothie bottles)

DIRECTIONS:

In a large bowl, add the salts and baking soda.
Mix to combine.
Add the oil and essential oils. Use your fingers to "massage" the oils into the mix.

Lastly
add the dried flowers. Stir until fully incorporated.

Spoon the mixture to a clean jar or several jars. Zip-loc bags will also work.

Store in a cool, dry place until ready to use. That way they should last 3-6 months.

TO USE:

In the bathtub:

Add 1/4 cup to 2 cups of the bath salt to a muslin bag. Hang the bag over the faucet of the tub, allowing the water to run through the bag releasing the salts and essential oils.

Alternatively, add the bath salt mix directly into the tub for a pretty display. Just make sure you use a strainer to catch the flowers so they won't clog your tub!

Soak in the bath for at least 20 minutes to relieve stress and stiffness.

While soaking, perhaps you'd like to speak positive affirmations such as

"I release that which is no longer serving me."

Or
"I am surrounded by love, and I receive love constantly."
Or
"I am protected and safe."

Don't forget to set the mood first by turning the lights down, lighting a few candles and playing some soft music – perhaps some healing binaural beats? For an extra luxurious experience, add a bit of coconut milk, sweet almond oil and/or honey to your bathwater. Invite and celebrate you Inner Goddess!

As foot or hand soak:

Fill a bucket or bowl with warm water and add about 2 tbsp to 1/2 cup of the mix into the water. Soak your feet for 10-15 minutes to help soothe aches and soften rough skin. Soak for hands for about 3-5 minutes to soften the cuticles as part of your at home manicure.

In the shower:

Use the salt mix to gently exfoliate and soften your skin. I recommend mixing
a handful of the salt mix with 1 tbsp of shower gel or olive oil, and massaging it onto your wet skin like a body scrub. Rinse thoroughly.

mallow and cornflower will leave a pretty tinge of blue / purple in the bath water!
