Consorting with my ongoing 31 Days of Yoga challenge I thought this would be the perfect time to share my easy, eco-friendly DIY yoga mat cleaning spray recipe to keep your yoga mat nice and clean. Plus, it smells good. All you need is three ingredients and about two minutes of your time. Let's go!
You will need:
- 3/4 distilled water
- 1/4 alcohol-free witch hazel
- Essential oils of your choice (I like a blend of 12 drops lavender, 6 drops tea tree and 6 drops sweet orange) *
- a dark glass spray bottle (I re-used an old face mist bottle)
- a funnel (optional)
Fill your spray bottle about 3/4 of the way with distilled water. Fill the rest of the bottle with the witch hazel, leaving just enough room for about 25 drops of essential oils.
I chose lavender oil for its calming effect, tea tree as a powerful antibacterial agent, and sweet orange because it smells lovely and it also is naturally antiseptic and uplifting.
Spray your yoga mat cleaner over the surface of your mat. Wipe the yoga mat with a soft dry cloth, like a small towel or washcloth.
TIP: If your yoga mat seems especially dirty, let the cleanser sit and soak in a bit before cleaning it off.
Allow your mat to air dry before rolling it up, which should take only about 5 to 10 minutes. If it takes longer than this, then try rubbing your mat down some more with a towel to remove the excess water and accelerate drying time.
This should be repeated after each yoga session on the mat.
