These blondies were made in my PJs.
I don't know if this says something about the sluttishness of these "dirty blondies" *, but I definitely recommend rocking the kitchen in your jammies while singing along to These Boots Are Made For Walkin' by Nancy Sinatra. Great song. Which will hopefully inspire you to create some greatness yourself as you are prancing through the kitchen, holding your spatula like a microphone.
Anyway.
These slutty brownies/blondies (brondies?) were made for my boyfriend and I's monthly anniversary yesterday. Actually I was going to re-create my No-Bake Chili Chocolate Brownies, but then I decided that there were way too many other recipes out in the world that I needed to try, so I sort of adapted the Raw Vegan Brownies, & Blondies and Dirty Blondes by Molly since I have never made any "blondies" before.
Also, we still don't have a kitchen/oven in our flat, so a raw recipe was called for!
* by the way, when i told my boyfriend that i made him some dirty blondies, he actually said: "Dirty blondie? Sounds like you!" (smirk) - ahaha! score!
RAW DIRTY BLONDIES
adapted from Molly @Quiche a Week
Preparation time: 30 mins
Main ingredients: dates, almonds, walnuts
difficulty level: easy
makes: 10-15 brownie squares
suitable for: vegan, lactose-free, gluten-free, paleo, raw food, low carb
Ingredients
Blondies
90g + 1 handful of almonds, ground
50g dates, pitted and soaked
1/2 cup buckwheat groats
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp Maca powder (optional) *
1 tsp cinnamon
a good pinch of sea salt
Brownies
50g + 1 handful of walnuts, ground
40g almonds (or more walnuts), ground
70g dates, pitted and soaked
1/2 cup buckwheat groats
30g unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tbsp coconut blossom sugar (optional)
1 tsp Maca powder (optional) *
1 tsp cinnamon
a good pinch of sea salt
sliced almonds between the two layers (optional)
*Why do i add Maca powder to so many of my dessert recipes? Well - without wanting to make anyone feel uncomfortable ;) - Maca is said to promote sexual function of both men and women because it serves as a boost to your libido and increases endurance. And since desserts can be quite sexy, especially raw and vegan desserts, i love to add this extra spark.
Boyfriend surprise for our monthly anniversary: chocolate, candles and red roses :) How could I not love this guy?!
Instructions
First, soak your dates in hot water for around 15 minutes (if they aren't juicy, gooey medjool dates).
FOR THE BLONDIES: In a high-speed blender, process the almonds until they form a flour. In the blender - or a food processor, that's what i do - combine the almond flour with the rest of the listed ingredients. Note: I tossed in the handful of almonds last, without first grinding them, because i wanted it to be a little chunky.
Process until it is all well combined. You might add a little fluid as you go (i used the sweet water from soaking the dates in - aim for 3 to 5 tablespoons). The food processor may get a bit warm, so take a break every now and then, until a nice sticky brownie dough/paste consistency is achieved.
Press the dough into a parchment paper lined dish, until it is flat and firm. This might be a little tricky because the dough is quite moist and sticky. Mark my words, kids: Sticky = tricky. Haha!
Now onto the dirty part.
FOR THE BROWNIES: You basically repeat the same steps as with the blondies. First, grind your nuts, both walnuts and almonds, in a high-speed blender. Then combine the nut flour in a food processor along with the remaining ingredients, and, you know, process.
Press the dough into the pan, on top of the blondie layer. Before i did that, i sprinkled the blondie layer with sliced almonds, but that's totally up to you. I just thought it would be nice to separate the layers a bit more clearly.
Evenly spread the brownie dough and sprinkle with coarse salt. You could also add a handful of cacao nibs to the dough at this point! (I didn't though.)
Freeze for an hour or so, then take out and cut up into 12 squares.
You want this in your body now? Go on then, you naughty, dirty girl. (having way too much fun with these lewd phrases, haha!)
Store in the refrigerator.

Every blondie needs a brownie.
