The Green Smoothie ABC

As i lead a plant-based, mostly raw food life, i have to get my daily dose of fruits and veggies big time - and to be honest: i'm not the biggest fan of greens. So i've chosen the easiest, fastest, and yummiest way to consume a bunch of leaves. A meal in a glass. The Green Smoothie.

I think i am officially obsessed with green smoothies now: They're quick, easy, portable, delicious, and you can add a ridiculous amount of super-powered nutrients to each one. 

There are of course a hundred ways to make such a Green Smoothie, there is no such "one" recipe, the options are endless.

Here are the basics:

A - Pick your base:
- water
- coconut water
- coconut milk
- nut milk
- soy milk
- oat milk 
- rice milk
- hemp milk
- cold green tea or herbal tea
- 100% fruit juice


B - Pick your greens:
a bunch of leafy green vegetable of your choice, the darker the better (50% of total)
- spinach
- kale
- swiss chard
- arugula
- romaine lettuce
- bok choy
- broccoli
- collard greens
- beet greens
- dandelion greens


C - Pick your fruit:
a handful of your choice. fresh or frozen (50 % of total)
- apple
- berries
- mango
- peach
- cherries
- pear
- melon
- kiwi
- pineapple
- citrus


Optional:

D - Add 1-2 bananas or 1/2 papaya or 1 avocado for a creamy consistence

E - Add herbs, spices, seasoning *

F - Add a sweetener:
- Stevia
- raw agave or maple syrup
- raw honey
- soft dates

If you wanna get real fancy, throw in some add ons like seeds, hemp hearts, chopped nuts, goji berries, dates, oats, cacao powder, cacao nibs, coconut meat, nut butter, spirulina, maca powder...

G - Blend, baby, blend!
Place all ingredients in your blender. Add water/base to cover all ingredients. Blend. If it's too sweet or too thick, add more water or some juice. Drink immediately!

Green Machine Smoothie

If you are looking for some inspiration to start, here are some awesome combinations to try:

- 2 or 3 bananas + 1 cup spinach
   Note: baby spinach is great for "green smoothie newbies" due to its mild flavour and soft texture, making it easy to blend!
- 1 cup spinach + 1 cup mango + 1/2 cup strawberries + 1 cup almond milk
- 1 liter of orange juice + 2 cups spinach + juice of 1 lime + vanilla bean
- banana + arugula + orange + water
- banana + pineapple + mango + spinach + mint + water
- blueberries + banana + romaine lettuce + parsley + water
- romaine lettuce + honeydew melon + water
- spinach + banana + pear + ginger + lemon juice + avocado + flaxseed + water
- apple + spinach + lemon juice + avocado + water
- avocado + spinach + romaine lettuce + banana
- spinach + almond milk or water + frozen pineapple + banana
- spinach + pineapple + lemon juice + ginger
- kale and/or chard + banana + coconut milk + cranberries + orange + dates 
- orange + banana + carrot greens
- spinach + carrot greens + butterhead lettuce + banana + apple + honeydew melon + strawberries, frozen + ice cubes + water
- pineapple + butterhead lettuce + berries + pear + parsley + dates + water
- romaine lettuce + banana + cantaloupe + hemp seeds + cinnamon
- spinach + almond milk + avocado + banana + hemp hearts + cacao powder
- kale + papaya + mango + banana + pineapple + coconut milk
