Quick 2-ingredient ice cream using Japanese green tea
Preparation time: 5 mins + 3 hours freezing time
Main ingredients: banana, matcha
difficulty level: easy
serves: 1-2
suitable for: vegan, lactose-free, gluten-free, nut-free, paleo, raw food, and delicious "even so"
Remember Matcha tea being one of my essentials last month? I think i even mentioned wanting to make some Matcha Ice Cream, so here it is!
A creamy dreamy Green Tea ice cream (-try saying that three times in a row and fast!-). Different approaches to this matcha creation can be found here (using coconut milk) or here (using cashews).
Mine is a fat-free, nut-free and of course dairy-free version, using only bananas and Matcha.
Ingredients
2-3 large ripe bananas (i used 3)
1-2 tsp Matcha powder (i used 2)
also:
- a high-speed blender or food processor (NO NEED FOR AN ICE CREAM MAKER!)
Instructions
First, prepare your bananas as you would for a basic banana ice cream: break your bananas into pieces, let sit in freezer for 3 hours or so, put frozen banana pieces into your blending machine and blend until creamy smooth.
Now add the Matcha powder. Blend again until everything becomes a silky but thick mass. Fill everything into a nice bowl and scoop away immediately! Or, if you're not as ice cream addicted as me, you can put it back into the freezer to get a firmer result.
As for me, i just sat down with ma big ol' bowl and spooned the ice cream right up :) by the way: i just found out that the Chinese character on that bowl means "tea". Perfect, eh?
The benefits of Matcha tea
(source: sheknows.com)
Matcha is a powdered green tea from Japan that is not brewed but dissolved in 75°C warm water. More than any other green tea, Matcha is known to be especially beneficial for our health.
Matcha
- is a strong antioxidant
(1 glass of matcha equals 10 glasses of green tea in terms of its nutritional value and antioxidant content)
- boosts fat burning
(by increasing the body's own rate of burning calories)
- lifts the mood
(due to the relaxant amino acid L-theanine)
- increases metabolism
- contains vital chlorophyll
- delays premature aging
- is rich in vitamins A, C and E
It is also supposed to have a beneficial impact on blood sugar regulation, cholesterol control and heart health support. And in addition to all those great health benefits, Matcha tea makes for a super delicious, tart but sweet ice cream!
